Nerd Word Wednesday

Tomorrow is Valentine’s day and my little black dress and pearls are ready to go for my “single ladies” soiree.   Several of us “unattached” females will be gathering for an evening of frozen yogurt and mindless chatter.

This week’s Nerd Word is a concept that any Food Network fan will be familiar with.

mise en place

noun

[usually in singular]

  • (in a kitchen) the preparation of dishes and ingredients before the beginning of service.
  • pronounced [miz on plas]

Origin:

French, literally ‘putting in place’

When ingredients for a recipe are gathered, measured and set out before beginning the cooking or baking process the line-up is called “mise en place”.  The French have fancy names for everything; I love them for that.

Have a wonderful Wednesday!

Sincerely,
