OUR 4TH OF JULY

I hope you all had an incredible 4th of July!

Because I cannot get a full handle on what’s going on (Thursday holidays do a number on my mental schedule), and because it feels like the weekend really began yesterday, I decided to forgo Coffee Talk this week and give you a quick peek into our Fourth of July celebrations.

I LOVE this holiday. So much. It has always been a big deal in my family, I’m always up for an excuse to eat all the things I love and wear all the glitter I want.

Sure our fireworks display was cancelled ten minutes before the scheduled start time because of a spontaneous storm, and sure there was a mild case of pandemonium as patriotic picnickers grabbed child and blanket and ran for their mini vans, but I walked away without a sunburn and ate caramel apples with some of my very favorite people, so it was a good day.

My only regret? I did not get one single ‘plate picture.’ Something happens when a hamburger and a pile of summery sides are placed in front of me and it’s all some kind of heavenly blur until that American flag plate is empty.

My mom made my roasted cherry tomatoes.

This cherry cake was pretty fabulous. I’ll be sharing the recipe soon!

I have lost track of how many times I have talked about this strawberry-pretzel monstrosity that never slices right and is embarrassingly easy, but I love it with all of my heart.

Fact: my grandpa is the best.

Sometimes, you’ve got to live the cliche and feel good about it.

Happy, happy weekending, friends!

Sincerely,

Pedantic Foodie
